1845 Distilling Company, located in Lowry Crossing, Texas is a grain to glass distillery specializing in bourbon (and the occasional whiskey).  Founded in 2018 by Bob and June Petitt, 1845 bourbon first entered the local market in 2023 when the tasting room opened.  Since then, it has been distributed to over 195 stores across Texas with plans to expand beyond the Lone Star State.  With three different mashbills, all crafted with 100% Texas grain, 1845 Distilling Co. produces six expressions available statewide.

Since filling their first barrel in 2019, 1845 Distilling Co. has garnered over 70 prestigious awards, including back-to-back Double Gold awards at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition for their PREEMPTION Texas Straight Bourbon Whiskey (100 proof).

The distillery is open to the public for guided tours and tastings.  Their tasting room releases special products seasonally, allowing guests to experience one-of-a-kind products not available in stores.

Our experience with fermentation started back in 2008 when Bob and June opened the Port Aransas Brewing Company in Port Aransas, Texas.  They specialized in brewing craft beers for eager beachgoers.  They eventually brought on Miguel, who was in culinary school at the time, to help with brewing.

After selling the brewpub and relocating back to their hometown of Dallas, Bob and June planted their roots in Lowry Crossing and decided to take the next step, and open a distillery.  They brought Miguel on as the lead distiller and sought education from distilleries and schools all over the country.

We began perfecting our grain to glass process, and in 2019, we barreled the first of close to 600 barrels currently in the barrel barn.   Once those first barrels became 3 years old, we started blending, bottling, and preparing to open our tasting room.  After submitting bottles to close to 6 competitions in 2023, we were stunned when we medalled at all of them.  We opened our tasting room doors in February of 2023 with an overwhelming amount of local support.

In 1836, the new Republic of Texas instituted a policy of distributing public lands to encourage settlement. In 1845 the Republic of Texas passed the Preemption Act thus creating “Preemption Grants”. In early December 1845, the land the Distillery is built upon received it’s preemption grant from the Republic. Later that month, in December 1845, the Congress of Texas voted to join the United States of America, making 1845 the last year of the Republic of Texas.

1845 Distilling Company is named in honor of those early Texans who sacrificed to make a better life for their family and to celebrate the last year Texas was an independent country. Between 1846 - 1898 the State of Texas continued issuing preemption grants to early Texas settlers. In 1860, the ancestors of our Distiller received their preemption grant from the State of Texas. His family still owns the original homestead. Many relatives have been born on that property. His Grandmother, now in her 90’s, still lives on that land and operates the Family ranch. With the birth of the next generation, their roots are now eight generations Texas strong.

our story

Bob - owner / founder

june - owner / founder

miguel - head distiller

Ben - manager of operations

catie - marketing

The man, the myth, the legend.  On top of being the brains behind this whole operation, Bob is also a retired Civil Engineer, Land Surveyor, our resident tour guide, and the current Bourbon Mayor of Lowry Crossing.

The First Lady of Texas Bourbon, June has been Bob's superwoman since high school.  A CPA turned entrepreneur, she plays an active role in all facets of the business.

Originally from Victoria, Texas, Miguel comes from a family that is 8 generations deep in Texas.  He has worked in restaurants since he was old enough to work, and used his passion for cooking to earn a degree in Hospitality Management.  When he's not living the bourbon life, he enjoys watching NASCAR and the Dallas Cowboys with his two kids.

A sixth generation Texan, you’ll find Ben in the tasting room on the weekends sharing his knowledge of our spirits, but he’s also our Manager of Operations.  He literally keeps us up and running on a daily basis from handling all of our IT needs to inventory control to front of the house management, all while also being the Vintner for our sister brand, Christian Belle Winery.

Also a sixth generation Texan, Catie studied Biomedical Engineering at Marquette University in Milwaukee.  After graduating, she realized her passion was not engineering, but rather serving and interacting with other people.  She is involved with our customer relations, marketing, and graphic design.
